no strings attached - part 2

today ewan had a frenulotomy.

right after he was born we noticed he had a sweet little heart shaped tongue. his tongue was that shape because he was tongue-tied, so his tongue was tethered to the floor of his mouth a little bit tighter than the rest of us. we never got a good photo of it - but you can get a glimpse of it in the crying photo on this posting.

we opted not to get anything done initially because he was feeding so well and it did not seem to bother him. but over the past few weeks he has been clicking & clucking when he eats which was quite frustrating for him (and uncomfortable for me). we then realized that the reason that he has never been a fan of the binky was because his tongue was keeping him from being able to hold it in his mouth.
so, we chatted with our pediatrician & we all agreed it was probably for the best to take care of it sooner rather than later. so without any sedation & just a little bit of sweeties - two snips and his tongue was free! he tolerated it great. and now when he is older he can lick an ice cream cone to his heart's content.
