so, we would be a bit dishonest if we were tell you that our transition from seattle to memphis has been a smooth one. both emotionally and physically, the climate/culture change has been a bit of a shock.
but this weekend, things were looking a bit brighter for us. after nearly a week of solid rain ("monsoon" category), the sun came out and dried up the ground and the air. so we were finally able to emerge from the air conditioning to explore our neighborood a bit - which includes the memphis zoo!

checking out the big birds. we were hoping he would let out one of his lily-inspired squeals while looking at the animals - but this time there was just a lot of contemplative study.
our future botanist/naturalist was as excited about the flora/fauna as he was the wildlife.
the best part of the zoo was enjoying the beautiful day with his mama...

& after the zoo, we strolled to the neighborhood cafe for black bean patty melts, shakes, & of course... sweet taters for the boy.
i think he was pleased!
