chit chat

truth be told... i think that we have a talker on our hands.  for those of you who know pat well - you know he has his moments of verbosity - but overall he is a man who contemplates and considers and then expresses himself.  i on the other hand - just talk!  & it looks our little one (at least for now) is taking after his mama on this one.

it is fascinating & a true joy to watch ewan find his voice.  find his words.  it is a bit of a multi-media affair.  he uses sign language, sound effects, real words, made up words and if all else fails - everything is either "baba" or "meemee".

pic of the day today (just because it is so sweet)

several months ago pat & i started having a "goodnight phone call" when i am on-call in the hospital.  just a quick little hello, good night & i love you.  10% for the boy & 90% for the mama.  each conversation starts with an exhaulted squeal for our cat lily (as she is in the photo of me that comes up on pat's home) & inevitably ends with ewan "accidentally" hanging up on me

but last night's call was different.
so different that it deserves a reinactment.
pat phones mo ---

m - hi buggy, it's mama
p - ewan say hi to mama
e - "hi" (in a syrupy southern drawl)
p - who is that?
e - "mama"
m - ewan what did you & papa do today?
e - "toot toot!"
m - oh wow, you road the train at the zoo
e - "baa"
m - and you saw sheep
p - what else did we see buddy?
e - "moo"
m - oh, you saw cows?
e - "don don"
m - and donkeys.
e - shrill screech
m - and the chickens?
p - ewan what did we do after the train? did we see the bears?
e - "bear"
e - "wawa" "wawa"
m - oh wow, did papa let you play in the geysers?
e - "wet!"

now to some this may seem cryptic and a little confusing.  but i am pretty sure ewan & i had our first official phone conversation.  all of this made possible with the loving support of papa.  but wow, my 18 month old just told me about his day!
