updated for a big boy

E's crib has been his little nest for almost 2 1/2 years! we chose his crib because we liked it, but also because it was the only one that would fit in our tiny basement apartment in seattle.

it is on the petite side & because of that our boy is getting more & more cramped. the crowding is exacerbated by e's need to have all of the household's plush creatures in his bed with him.

and so this weekend, even though he has never tried to escape his nest, the side rail came off. I thought it was the next best step before we put him in a real big boy bed! oh my - what was this mama thinking!

the transition has actually been ok - so far. there has been no midnight roaming & naps are still going strong. the only difference is that every am at 6:30am we are joined in our bed by a boy, a blankie, a lamb, a bear, a little polar bear, a sheep, a penguin dressed like a rooster, wallace & gromit! & let me tell you that boy has chilly feet in the am!

& here is the boy in his crib turned big boy bed... side is off... the decor updated with a mama-made whale sheet... the boy is snuggled up with his mama-made afghan (a project started when e was the size of a kidney bean & finally finished this valentine's day)... looks pretty cozy, don't you think?!
