seattle to memphis

whew! what a journey. today we completed our 2600 mile journey from seattle to memphis! it was a bit of an arduous trip both physically & mentally - but we made it.

i hope someday to fill in the gaps with more photos & thoughts, but for now here is a quick look into our 6 day journey....

day #1 - seattle, wa to missoula, mt

see post below for a pic of ewan in central washington. this day definitely had a learning curve. most important lesson learned - you cannot put a black dog in a hatchback trunk in the afternoon in temps greater than 90 degrees - too hot!

i think idaho may be the only state we do not have photographic evidence of!

day #2 - missoula, mt to billings, mt

we were slow to move through montana. we enjoyed taking in the scenery & enjoying the lovely towns. this was by far the most beautiful part of our journey & yet probably one of the more difficult days. i think between pat & i we probably thought to ourselves - "why in the h--- are we moving to memphis, tn" - 120 times a minute.

but despite the gloom we ended our day at our dear friends the kosnars! & how could we be gloomy when we had eileen to play with & baby graham to meet?

here ewan & i are enjoying a stroll along the river in missoula, mt.

day #3 - a whole day of billings, mt

today was our rest day - sort of. at the very least it was a day out of the car! although pat had to spend quite a bit of time on the phone with banks, insurance companies, etc. we did have a wonderful day reconnecting with our dear friends from chapel hill - margie & steve.

we enjoyed a day of play, naps, first trips to the "pool", and great chat with our friends from chapel hill - margie & steve.

there are more pics of our visit - but here is a photo of the boys.

day #4 - DETOUR - billings, mt to denver, co

somehow as newbie homebuyers we missed that we were supposed to have a cashiers check in hand at the time of closing! whoops! thanks tonthis lady minute revelation we had to
postpone our travels to iowa (so that ewan could meet mo's people) & we had to hunt down the most convenient wamu bank - which happens to be in denver.

here ewan in taking in the sights of wyoming. pat & I were much more impressed - the landscape was spectacular!

day #5 - denver, co to wichita, ks

and on this day we said good bye to the mountains & embarked on a long day through the plains! did i mention - LONG!

ewan in colby, ks. what else is there to say!

day #6 - wichita, ks to memphis, tn

anxious to get the show on the road pat & I made two travel mistakes on this morning - we skipped coffee & a shower. no better way to make a long day even longer!

this final day of travel was a bit challenging. we finally hit temps in the mid-90s (@ one point even lily was panting!) and our exquisitely patient babe became fet up with the carseat!

here is a much appreciated moment in oklahoma where i (in the passengerr seat) could take a break from "entertaining" & pat (the driver) could take a break from tolerating the "entertainment".

note "entertaining" is defined as passing back countless toys, singing ridiculous songs such as "head, shoulders, knees & toes", reading books, playing peek-a-boo, playing the same song over & over simply because the babe likes it & even stooping so low as to opening & closing the window - again because the bug likes it.

swatting flies in arkansas with just 81 miles to go!

and so with a few more songs sung & books read, the five weary travellers finally made it to memphis, tn!!!!
