snowy day

after a few days of cold and rainy, Canada decided to help out and send some really cold air down to make some snow.  As with all forecasts, the amount of expected snowfall varied greatly.  In the pacific northwest, any weather forecast past 24 hours is just a guess.

there is very little on this earth that makes me feel like a kid the way expected snow does.  and even less that makes me as grumpy as incompetent meteorologists.  so once expectations were set for 7 to 12 inches, I started to make promises of snowballs to a certain young man.

the storm was to start on Tuesday and last through Thursday morning.  Tuesday came and went with little to no snowfall, but that was ok cause the big blast was to be wednesday am.  no dice.  just some errant flurries.

then it happened around 5 o'clock wednesday evening just as the winter storm warning expired for western whatcom county.  a steady stream of snow which accumulated fairly rapidly.  E and I went to bed with snowballs on our minds.

by morning we received about 5 inches.  not nearly enough in my opinion, but plenty for snowballs.

 doing his own thing.
 check out those snot rockets!

 doin' work.

just getting the hang of snow angels.
by far his favorite thing to do with the snow.  and yes, he's been warned about the pitfalls of munching on yellow and brown snow.
