digging, strolling & nibbling

yesterday was a bit touch & go from a weather standpoint. & when I say touch & go weather, this is very different than on the mainland. it means at times sung & at times drizzling. our personal travel agent (pat) thought this would be a good time for a little hike. the boys had already had some good beach time in the AM.

we went to see the "iao needle" in the iao valley in central Maui. the hike was well recommended in the guidebook. it was a lovely stroll but not quite the kind of hike to which we are accustomed. this fact was a delight to our little hiker whose "legs get tired" very easily!

this may be one of my favorite pics of all time

after our hike we headed to the beach for more sand & water play. that plan was thwarted by traffic, impromptu whale watching & naps (see pat's post). so we had to change tact a bit & enjoyed a sunset picnic on the beach. there was yummy nibbles, a little dancing, a little digging, some whale spotting & a lovely mama/E stroll. here are a few pics from the evening.
