we have been so fortunate that our babe & my pregnancy has been incredibly healthy. unfortunately "the vessel" has not faired as well. i think long hours, combined with primary care pediatric exposures & e's new adventures in preschool germs, has led to me being sick ALOT this pregnancy. ALOT! i had the rare double digit stretch of days without a viral illness.
well things stepped it up about a week and a half ago... just as i was starting to question the utility/sanity of making my very pregnant bod go to work 10 hours a day, i developed a NASTY pink eye quickly followed by an ear infection & pneumonia. let me tell you an incessant hacking cough when you are 38 weeks pregnant is a real challenge to the pelvic floor (oops, is that too much?). so it was with this miserable constellation of ailments supported by pat's insistence & my docs blessing, i decided to bow out of work a couple of weeks early.
just in the past couple of days, i have been starting to feel better and really appreciate this bonus time with my boys. a little saddened that ewan keeps wondering why i am not at work - but overall so thankful for this time. as a family we have been trying to enjoy our time together as three. we have also been trying to take in some of the wonders of summer that bellingham holds (although the weather is still less than summery). pat & i are just taking deep breaths and trying to enjoy these special moments - e on the other hand has been quite a slave driver declaring every day "a cleaning day" or "a weeding day" - must be his version of nesting!
here are some images from our week of living at a little slower pace...
