we hiked the 1st 2 miles of the kalalau trail along the rugged northern coast of Kauai. the trail had elevation, waterfall crossings & some amazing views. after 2 miles we reached a stretch of coastline. the coast was boulders given the rough waters of the winter. but just before the coast was a river running into the ocean. we paused here for quite some time to rinse the mud off
our legs & for the boy to Wade in the water.
you'll notice that there are no pics from the trail in this post. we were packing light - so i opted for a real camera & not my iPhone. stay tuned for those pics.
after we completed the return trip, we enjoyed ke'e beach & it's crystal clear water. e enjoyed playing among the lava rocks at the water's edge. he turned it into his own kitchen stadium. he busied himself making batter, chopping nuts, using little streams as his sink faucet - it was quite the elaborate imaginary play.
this evening e proved himself to be quite savvy on the other side of the kitchen counter. we had an amazing farewell dinner at bar acoda (lame name, great food) in hanalei. e once again proved his palate to be entirely too sophisticated for a two year old. it was tapas style dining & pat & I found ourselves racing the boy to get our share. he enjoyed the goat & romesco cheeses, figs, anything dipped in balsamic vinegar, & of course the treats. he lost steak about midway & with the help of his pals beppy & blankie, he rested his weary head on the table.
hard to believe today was our last full day in Hawaii. it sure was a perfect one!
